Franciscan Postulant Sarah and pastor of her home parish Father Dave ObertsRecently I had the privilege of having my home parish priest, Fr. Dave Oberts, come to visit the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity at Holy Family Convent in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. Coming all the way from Our Lady of Lourdes near Rice Lake, Wisconsin, Fr. Dave arrived here on Thursday in the afternoon, just as I was finishing my college classes for the day. During his visit, Fr. Dave experienced lunch in the convent cafeteria and got a tour of both the Motherhouse and Silver Lake College. After this, we were able to visit for a while and just catch up. It was truly wonderful for him to finally see my new home, and he was happy to be here as well.

Fr. Dave has been a huge inspiration and blessing in my life, and I know without a doubt that I would not be where I am today if it was not for him. He is truly a reflection of the life and love of Jesus Christ and it is in him that I found the part of me that had always been missing: my faith. Through all of my suffering, he is the one who led me back to Jesus when He seemed so far away. When I began to feel called to the religious life, he helped me so much by being there for me as a spiritual director, friend, and father.

While our time together was short, Fr. Dave is planning on coming to visit Manitowoc again, which I am most definitely looking forward to. God truly does bring people into our lives for a reason. We just have to trust Him, because He knows what He’s doing.
