Lyrics: ‘Hear You Call’ by Dave Gerhartz

Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity highlight Dave Gerhartz’ ‘Hear You Call’ this month of September 2011. Check out his website.

Acts 20: 24

Alpha, Omega,

first and the last God of all things to be,

all things past

Do you see me sitting here with a paper and a pen

Contemplating my part in your plan

I know it’s much easier just to walk by

And on fate and destiny rely

When my place it seems too small

Let me hear your call

I know it’s much easier just to walk by

And on fate and destiny rely

When my place it seems too small

Let me hear you call

But, you don’t need me to give a new start

You don’t need me to change a man’s heart

You can use me in this life

You can use me how you’d like

You don’t need me to change a man’s heart

You can use me in this life

Your plans are much bigger than mine

 ‘cause I’ve held babies born

just moments before

Held a dying man’s hand

Who couldn’t hold on anymore

Yes, all of life’s places

They follow me on this earth here

You’re putting them together

The image is getting clearer

I know it’s much easier just to walk by

And on fate and destiny rely

When my place it seems too small

Let me hear your call

I know it’s much easier just to walk by

And on fate and destiny rely

When my place it seems too small

Let me hear you call

But, you don’t need me to give a new start

You don’t need me to change a man’s heart

You can use me in this life

You can use me how you’d like

You don’t need me to change a man’s heart

You can use me in this life

Your plans are much bigger than mine

I know it’s much easier just to walk by

And on fate and destiny rely

When my place it seems too small

Let me hear your call

I know it’s much easier just to walk by

And on fate and destiny rely

When my place it seems too small

Let me hear you call

Dave, THANK YOU, for sharing your music. Your song brings to mind one's commitment to the Lord, day by day no matter WHAT walk of life one chooses.  I like the line “the Alpha & Omega” which is what life is all about where you have to choose as you say over and over again “the call to choose to “hold a new born babe, or to hold a dying person's hand,” or “to change or to walk on by.” Continue to share your God-given talent of music!

The words of this song speak so deeply to me of each of our individual journeys to God.  As I look back at how God has directed my life, at the times I really struggled with God and yet, at how gently God has carried me, I am truly grateful and in awe. At the time the future seems to be so “unknown” and yet when we can look back the path seems to be so clear. I pray today for each one who is sincerely searching for what God wants of them. I once read that faith is like taking the next step into the darkness. We don't know where our foot will land, but God does and He loves us. God bless you!

I really LIKE this song!   It has an upbeat tempo and gives the audio image of walking along…..which strengthens the lyrics, “I know that it's much easier just to walk by…”  It feels like a peaceful song for me and has somewhat of a 'grounded' happiness about it.   Nice job!

The words, “when my place it seems too small”, connects with my own personal experience of the calling,
initially, and now, again and again, as I get more 'seasoned' with years.

Great and amazing gift to us all!  Thank you for sharing it with us.
