Soon to be Franciscan Sisters’ Postulant Megan shares about World Youth Day-Stateside in Chicago.
“I am so thankful that I was invited to be a part of the Diocese of Green Bay World Youth Day- Stateside trip to Chicago. This opportunity allowed me to be with the traveling Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity in spirit, as well as celebrate with many other young people in the diocese, midwest, and world.
Our group met at the Diocese of Green Bay around 8:00am on July 30th, and received a special blessing from Bishop Ricken before departing. We arrived at Holy Hill in Hubertus, WI a few hours later. Both Bishop Ricken’s blessing, and our time at this national shrine were grace-filled ways to prepare our hearts for the World Youth Day activities in Chicago.
We entered the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe’s parking lot around 5:00 pm, and began a wonderful evening of praise and worship, speakers, adoration, and of course, watching the mass live in Poland at 3:00 am. Before leaving, one of the sisters had joked that they should hold up a sign saying “hello Megan” since they knew I’d be watching it. That might not have been a possibility, but in these hours, it was possible to feel spiritually connected with millions of young adults, including the Franciscan Sisters 🙂
We had our own tri-lingual (English, Spanish, and Polish) mass later that morning, and it was a gift to rejoice in how universal our Catholic church is. The whole pilgrimage was a beautiful way to embrace and learn more about other cultures, as well as celebrate our faith. I am so excited to hear what stories Sister Regina Rose, Sister Pamela Catherine, Sister Monica, and Sister Mary Teresa have to share, in addition to what they’ve been posting on social media :).”
