Franciscan Day at Holy Resurrection Monastery

by Sister Julie Ann on July 10, 2015

Franciscan Sisters enjoy visits with their neighbors. A day with the Monks at Holy Resurrection Monastery was built into our summer calendar. It truly was an enjoyable time.

The day began with a bus ride. A lot of our Sisters wanted to come! We arrived for Divine Liturgy at 10:30 a.m., had a festive lunch. Next, Abbot Nicholas helped us better understand the monk’s lives. We grew in appreciation for all we share in common.

I really enjoyed the experience at Holy Resurrection Monastery in St. Nazianz and am so grateful to have had the opportunity to learn more about the Byzantine Catholic tradition. What struck me when both Abbot Nicholas and Father Maximos talked with us is the concept that the Easter Tradition emphasizes mysticism – God’s encounter with us in the deepest part of our soul. This reminded me of St. Francis’s life and his total immersion in relationship with God. It was wonderful to experience the richness of the diversity that characterizes what it means to be Catholic.
