by fscc on September 20, 2014

Along with the International Coastal Clean-up efforts, Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity partner with the Alliance of the Great Lakes and Friends of the Manitowoc River Watershed to take care of Sister Water. This year September 20, 2014 marked the date for our comprehensive-collaborative beach clean-up.

Franciscan Sisters collaborate with area high school students for beach clean upWe had a new development to report on our 9 year history of monitoring the Memorial Drive across from the United Way sign Lake Michigan shoreline. There was no beach.

After checking in with other organizations and their volunteers, we were easily united with another group near the University of Manitowoc and Silver Creek Park. We quickly notified our own promised volunteers from Roncalli Catholic High School, Silver Lake College and St. Francis of Assisi Parish to meet us at our new location.  All enjoyed a new perspective of our favorite Great Lake.

This year all volunteers were invite to a buffet picnic at Schutte Park. A smoothie-making bicycle was a delicious healthy dessert.

  1. Thanks for sharing this project with us via our web page. Our Sister Water certainly moderates our warm and cold temperatures in the Manitowoc/Two Rivers area. Your service is greatly appreciated!

  2. Sister Carla Riach says:

Thanks to all who participated in the cleanup day. Sister water is so essential to life. Here in the desert all rejoice at the smallest amount of rainfall. This summer we have been blessed with plentiful monsoon rains. The weather folks say today is the end of the monsoons. We won’t mind if they are wrong! Praise God for Sister Water!
