Here’s a Franciscan Advent Wreath Table Prayer

by Sister Virgine on December 8, 2012

On this Feast of the Immaculate Conception, Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity at St. Francis Convent, Manitowoc, WI. share their Advent wreath prayer complete with pictures in prayerful action. Sister Virgine Van Thull enjoys creating liturgical aids that encourage a strong faith-filled atmosphere among the Sisters. We look forward to the Second Week of Advent.

Advent Wreath Table Prayer

Here at St. Francis we have our own way of doing the Advent wreath.  When the Sisters are all seated at dinner time, someone intones “Prepare ye the way of the Lord..” (from Godspel).  Then the lights are turned out and a leader gives a short introduction.  After that, there is a short period of silence and the candle(s) are lit.  The concluding prayer closes this short ceremony and everyone goes on with dinner.

I love the creativity and prayerful direction you are all sharing with us as we journey together during this advent time! It is especially inspiring to reflect upon this in the evening shadows!

  2. I was blessed to be with the St. Francis community on Friday for dinner and to experience this prayerful and creative observation of Advent. Thanks to Sr. Virgine for creating the prayer, for Sr. Henrietta for the beauty of the wreath, to Sr. Elizabeth Ann for leading the prayer and to all who make this a prayerful time.

  3. Such a family feel to this Advent wreath prayer! Thanks for taking the time to share it with all of us!
