How to Support Catholic Diocese of Marquette in Lumen Christi Nominations

by Sister Margey on April 9, 2012

Franciscan Sister of Christian Charity Sister Margey Schmelzle, serving at St. Augustine, Republic, MI and Sacred Heart Parish, Champion, MI, invites all of us to vote for Diocese of Marquette’s nomination Room at the Inn for a Catholic Extension Lumen Christi award. Read the whole posting to find out how to help.

Our Diocese of Marquette has nominated Room at the Inn, a homeless shelter in Marquette sponsored by many churches which host the homeless for a week at a time, for the Catholic Extension’s 2012 Lumen Christi Award honoring individuals and groups for making a huge impact on our world and sharing the light of Christ within their diocese and community.

All of our Sisters in the U.P. are involved in some way or other with the homeless shelter Room at the Inn – Sister Colleen and Sister Marcelyn are involved when the shelter is at their church; Sister Ludmilla makes meals for the homeless for a week at a time; Sister Lois organized a Pasty Supper for the homeless on a week that St. Augustine Parish made pasties and donated them to the shelter.

The Award is accompanied by a $50,000 grant ($25,000 for the honoree and $25,000 for the nominating diocese) to be used for enhancing a specific area of ministry.

The Diocese of Marquette invites people to support the Room at the Inn nomination by voting on the Catholic Extension Facebook page by April 13.  Facebook support is just one of several factors considered in determining award finalists.

It’s easy to show your support. Here’s how:

  1. Visit the Catholic Extension website at www.CatholicExtension.org.
  2. Click on “2012 Lumen Christi Awards” to view all entries.
  3. Scroll down to find “Room at the Inn” and click on “Vote for this Nominee” to go to the Facebook voting page.  “Like” the page first, then “Vote”
  4. Not on Facebook?  Facebook is the only way to vote at this time.  However, you can browse the list of nominees to read inspirational snippets about how people and organizations around the country are sharing the light of Christ.

Spread the word and ask friends and family to vote on Facebook!
