Begin Celebration of Silver Lake College of the Holy Family’s Legacy

by Sister Julie Ann on January 28, 2010

p1010199.JPGThe beginning of 2010 marks a celebratory milestone in Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity-sponsored Silver Lake College’s long educational history. While educating young people dates back well into the 1800’s, in 1935, the State of Wisconsin issued Silver Lake College of the Holy Family its official charter as an undergraduate institution.

p1010202.JPGTo celebrate this educational legacy, and in honor of the 75th anniversary of its charter, Bishop Robert Morneau, highly respected past professor and former chaplain, presided at an opening Eucharistic liturgy on January 28, 2010. All alumni, friends, students, parents, and guests were invited to attend.

p1010203.JPGWhile the Franciscan Sisters and the college community proudly solemnize the past with other celebratory activities , it seems appropriate to delve deeply in the words of learned St. Bonaventure at this time:

Prayer was a support to this worker; for in everything which he did, distrusting his own effort and trusting in God’s loving concern, he cast his care completely upon the Lord in urgent prayers to him…believing that without it no one could prosper in God’s service.”

Any comments?

How blessed we are that Mother Generose had such far reaching vision. Her faith and trust in God is a lesson for all of us today. Most of the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity have been educated at Silver Lake College. Now we are helping to educate others. May God continue to bless us in all the work we do for His church. May He give us the faith and trust that we need to carry on this work.

  2. Congratulations to our sisters and the entire administration, faculty and staff of SLC. I received the best undergraduate education there! When I went for my master’s degree there was nothing I had not already be exposed to at SLC. I went to the website: http://www.sl.edu/franciscan/
to check out upcoming spiritual events. Looks like some great things are planned.

CONGRATULATIONS on the 75th. Anniversary of Silver Lake College. Yes, our Sisters worked HARD to pioneer the college and still are with the assistance of many dedicated lay people. I benefited from attending and living at Silver Lake College in my early years of Religious Life. The spirit and mission of the college was tremendous so am certain that this is being continued by the sacrifices and efforts of many people. Keep up your dedicated service and mission and may the Holy Spirit continue to guide each of YOU as you discern and improve this legacy of excellence in the years to come. THANK YOU and you are in our prayers!

  4. Celebrations are all about people. We, the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity, could never remember Silver Lake of the Holy Family’s past without thanking God for the many supportive relationships with people–dedicated folks who given of themselves as chaplains, board members, administrative leaders, faculty, staff and students, and espeically those who have left their footprints at liturgies and events. God is good.
