Francis Fest Sunday Liturgy Suffuces with Spirit of Welcome

by Sister Julie Ann on September 28, 2008

Commencing with a banner-waving entrance procession of  over forty organizations and groups that are representative of the involvement of members of the parish, the St. Francis of Assisi Parish Eucharistic liturgy on September 28, 2008 was stirringly festive and notably conscious of the need to reach out to others in need. The opening song “All are Welcome” repeated the Franciscan spirit of hospitality for all God’s people as the parish patron was called upon for intercession.

Francis Fest medieval activities continued through out the afternoon concluding with a 5 p.m. Sunday Supper for the poor sponsored by the parish. St. Francis of Assisi Parish collaborates with other faith communities and churches in the Manitowoc, WI area to provide a free meal once a month at Wesley United Methodist Church.

  1. My heart sang as I viewed the colorful banners and the lively procession into one of my favorite spots: The Roncalli Gym! For 14 years I, along with many others, organized liturgies, prayer services and outreach activities at Roncalli… and loved every moment of it. What a wonderful coming together of the religious and civic community to celebrate our common Franciscan heritage. Peace and all good!

  2. I am sure that St.Francis is dancing with joy at the community of Manitowoc coming together to praise God in so many different ways this week! The Eucharist was the perfect way to begin!

What a wonderful celebration! It was good to see so many people present and to listen to the sound of the singing fill the Roncalli gym. I was most impressed with the liturgical dancers. They brought a spirit of quiet and reverence to the procession of the gifts to the altar. Thanks to each of them for their courage in dancing before so many.
