Retreats Offer Time for Renewal

cam_0017.JPGThe Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity offer each of the Sisters annual opportunities to renew and deepen her spiritual life through both preached and directed retreats. Beginning in April and extending throughout the summer months, a  total of fifteen retreats were planned this year. In the month of June alone these retreats are scheduled:

Fr. Thomas McGonigle, OP, St. Thomas Aquinas Priory, Providence, RI, June 1-7, 2008 preaching on the theme The Ever New Call to Discipleship at the Motherhouse, Manitowoc.

cam_0199.JPGFr. Anthony Ciorra, Fordham University, Bronx, NY, June 8-14, 2008 preaching on the theme: The Sacrament of the Present Moment also at the Motherhouse, Manitowoc.

Monte Alverno Retreat Staff, Appleton, WI, June 8-14, 2008, leads a group retreat Do Not Fear to Hope: Live Life to the Full at Retreat and Spirituality Center, Appleton.

Fr. Richard Hart, OFM Cap, St Conrad Friary, Milwaukee, WI, June 8-14, 2008, facilitates a directed retreat Praying with Passion and Energy at Monte Alverno Retreat and Spirituality Center, Appleton.

Fr. Raphael Bonanno, OFM, Franciscan Ministry of the Word, Boston, MA, June 10-17, 2008 leads a directed retreat Our Desire for God at the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity House of Prayer, Manitowoc.

Sister Anne Marie Lom, OSF, spiritual director at St. Raphael Parish, Oshkosh, facilitates a directed retreat Movements of God in the life of Francis, Clare and you at Monte Alverno Retreat and Spirituality Center, Appleton.

Sister Jacqueline Spaniola, OSF, St. Peter the Fisherman Parish, June 20-27, 2008, guides a directed retreat The Holy Spirit at the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity House of Prayer, Manitowoc.

If any Sister has difficulty making one of the planned retreats, she requests to make a retreat at another time and possibly at another location. We invite you to share on a recent spiritual experience that has brought you to be more aware of God’s love for you.

  1. Sunday, June 15, we will begin the retreat at Monte Alverno. We will be renewing our experiences of the Assisi Pilgrimage, watching segments of a DVD showing people on pilgrimage and praying with pilgrimage themes. We will be especially mindful of those attending Camp Franciscan in Manitowoc. Our prayers will be with you as we journey into our solitude and prayer. If you’d like a copy of our retreat process, email me at samlom@excite.com

  2. We are having a wonderful and blessed week of retreat at Monte Alverno, Appleton. The weather has been Wisconsin at its best: sunny, breezy, dry and in the 70s-80s. It is always a blessing when everyone can get outside and enjoy God’s beautiful creation. I’ve seen a family of foxes and a badger along with the usual birds, squirrels and gophers.
In our prayer we are renewing our Franciscan spirituality by using a DVD of Franciscan Pilgrimage. Yesterday we “visited” Greccio and today La Verna. We are praying Francis’ Office of the Passion also called the Geste of the Great King.
We are “recapturing” and “renewing” our experiences of Pilgrimage and praying anew with feelings, images, emotions and thoughts. I am blessed to share the sisters’ insights and prayer experiences.
Continue to pray for and with us. We conclude on Sunday, June 22.

  3. Sister Anne Marie, thanks so much for remembering us in prayer and for keeping us connected to your lives on retreat. May we all grow in awareness that our lives are so interwoven at each moment of the day wherever we are.
