Franciscan Easter Image: San Damiano Crucifix and Discerner

by Sister Julie Ann on April 7, 2015

Franciscan Sister of Christian Charity Sister Regina Rose Pearson’s photo of our Community San Damiano Crucifix is a perfect Easter Season image. Written by Sister Mariella Erdmann, the depiction reveals the resurrected Christ of John’s Gospel. Today’s discerner, like Francis, is called to ‘rebuild My Church’. (Unseen at the base of the crucifix are Franciscan Sister leaders who served during times of change.)

The prayerful stance of the young woman and the depth of meaning of the San Damiano Crucifix remind me to support all forms of prayerful discernment. Thank you!

I love to sit before this cross in our Infirmary Chapel. I remember St. Clare’s admonition to “Gaze upon hIm, Consider him, Contemplate Him, Imitate hIm”. As I gaze on Him, he is gazing on me with love.
