Franciscan Sister of Christian Charity Sister Renee Mirkes shares a recent Brazilian connection in women’s health science, NaProTECHNOLOGY and some translations of music highlighted on Franciscanized World.
Dr. Jose Augusto Nasser dos Santos (a Brazilian neurosurgeon) and his wife Maria Laetitia attended Pope Paul VI Institute’s Love & Life Unlimited Conference in early May. They are interested in spreading the women’s health science, NaProTECHNOLOGY, to Brazil. They were so impressed with the medicine of NPT and Creighton Model FertilityCare System–and the philosophy and theology behind the medicine and its unique ability to maintain and monitor a woman’s health as well as family planning without resorting to contraception, sterilization and abortion–that they absolutely could not wait to return to Buenos Aires to meet with their bishop and archbishop and give them a complete report.
When the community posted the Brazilian artists performing songs they had written in preparation for Brazil’s upcoming World Youth Day, I emailed Dr Nasser and explained that the Sisters in my community would appreciate having an English translation of a couple of the Brazilian songs. And he very generously sent these translations. The theme of a Christian as a light for our culture is a very striking theme that seems to permeate these songs.

Love &Life Unlimited conference participants came from Brazil, Dr. Jose Augusto Nasser dos Santos, a neurosurgeon from Buenos Aires (third from the left, top row) and an OB/Gyn from Sao Paulo (second from the left, second row); one of the faculty members is from Krackow, Poland (second from the left, top row), another from Toronto, Canada (first on the right, top row). This conference is always like a small replica of the UN!
