Earth Day Witnesses: Franciscan Sisters Diamond Jubilarians

by Sister Julie Ann on April 22, 2013

On Earth Day Catholics are taking the St. Francis Pledge to Care for Creation and the Poor and joining the Catholic Climate Covenant. As Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity we highlight our Sisters celebrating vows of 75 and 60 years as our models of faith-filled women religious who protect God’s Creation and advocate on behalf of people in poverty who face the harshest impacts of global climate change. Congratulations, Sisters,  and thank you for your dedication to the world and all its peoples for not just one day or one year, but many years!

  • Sister Lorna Zemke
  • Sister Lucianna Derus
  • Sister Ludmilla Gramann
  • Sister Margaret Nethercott
  • Sister Mary Jerome Wensel

St. Francis reverence for all of creation included even the very deep layer beneath the surface of the earth where diamonds are formed under extreme geological conditions. Our diamond celebration of commitment by our Sisters includes gathering and sharing the stories of each one of our celebrants and the people who have changed and touched their lives. We promise to take the time periodically during this coming year to share more deeply on each of the Sisters and their call to be Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity, women of faith, women of service. Enjoy images of some touching moments this last weekend.

  3. Sister June says:

God has blessed our Community with many talented and dedicated Sisters: musicians, teachers, nurses, outreach to the poor and community service. I pray that more young women will answer the call to Religious Life.

  4. Sister Natalie says:

The celebration of our Diamond Jubilarians was joy-filled from beginning to end! The Diamond Jubilarians’ faces radiated the delight that their Sisters and family members brought in being present for this milestone event. God added an extra blessing during the Mass when the
Motherhouse seemed to be in a snow-globe! What would the day have been without a Franciscan Feast? Fond memories were shared and new ones made. It was a day of witnessing faithfulness, commitment and Franciscan Joy!

  5. Sister Sue Ann Hall says:

I was so grateful to be able to come from Zanesville, OH to be Sister Georgiana’s hostess and share in the lives of those who have served as a Franciscan Sister of Christian Charity. We each are, as Father said at Mass, “translations of the Bible” that are read as we go about our daily lives, touching all we meet in some way. Congratulations Sisters and Thank You!

It truly was a pleasure to celebrate with our Sisters. I had the pleasure of living with some of the celebrants….a true blessing.

  7. What a delightful presentation of our sisters who have served and loved so long and well. Congratulations to each of them and thank you, sisters, for your example to me of what it means to be a Franciscan Sister of Christian Charity.
